This year Turkey took the second place among about 50 countries by the number of beaches marked with blue flags. The total amount of these beaches in Turkey is 456. Blue flag is a world-famous eco-label which awards the best beaches and Marines. This program is held under the patronage of the Foundation for Environmental Education and its head office is situated in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Blue flags are the sign of the first-rate standards
Within thirty years, blue flags have been the symbols of high quality and the best reputation and have made the site owners do always better. The blue flags on the beaches mean:
- free access to the beach
- weekly tests of the water quality. The water is absolutely safe for bathing and is in line with high demand standards.
- Clean sand and regular garbage collection
- emergency services

- any means of transport is forbidden on the territory of the beach.

According to the Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, the country will save its leading positions in the list of the countries with the best beaches.
